North Korea’s nuclear authority has announced that it will restart the graphite moderated reactor, which was shut down along with other nuclear facilities in Yongbyon.
This means that North Korea will abandon the agreement made at the six-party nuclear talks in October 2007.
If it reactivates the five-megawatt nuclear reactor, North Korea may be able to process plutonium out of spent nuclear fuel rods. However, due to the destruction of some facilities in Yongbyon, including the cooling tower, in 2008, this process could take a deal of time.
